Blog Post #10- Final Presentation

Hello friends, its been awhile. This is because I had been working on something exciting. For my final project I decided to do the video lookbook presentation. The lookbook was based on fall 2018 with a streetwear theme.

Three outfits were styled by me on each of the model/dancers. The idea of this video came from how dance and fashion go hand in hand and how each of them influences each other. This video was filmed on the streets of New York in order to set the rest of the mood. Hope you guys enjoy and let me know what you think..

Blog Post #9 New Fashion Presentation

This week I will be writing about one of my favorite apps that present fashion in a new way. This app is called Depop. Depop is a mobile app that lets you sell new, old or used clothing to anyone on the app at your own price. Depop users can also shop what they like by just looking through items throughout their explore page.

This app is very much like Instagram but instead of posting photos of yourself sellers post photos of the items they are selling. Users can like, comment and message on a item they may be interested in,on the seller’s page. One of my favorite features is the section with the search bar where you could filter and search up exactly what your looking for. A lot of the items as well are marked with an affordable price and many of the sellers are willing to bargain the price.

Users can also follow their favorite sellers and have their own feed of just the sellers they follow in order to have a more curated timeline of things they would be more interested in. I personally haven’t sold anything yet but it’s definitely a great app to mobile shop in my opinion.

Here some pics that’ll persuade some of you to download the app if you haven’t done so already.  …..

Blog Post #8 Digital Lookbook

One of my favorite look book inspired videos for this season was the new “Topshop It’ Video. This digital lookbook is on my favorite’s list for many reasons. First of all just how fun and funky it is. It looks like the director really had a nice time coming up with the idea for the video. The music is fun, the dancing looks cool and makes the viewer want to keep watching.

The outfits for fall/winter 18 all give a sense of youth and just having fun with it. The words in the video are also very catchy and jump out at you at the right times. I like how they also included close up shots of the models showing off the accessories, it makes the viewer more enthralled into their whole merchandise not just apparel.

Overall it just seemed very nicely done and I think everyone should just take a look for themselves if they haven’t already.

Blog Post #7- Fashion Trunk Show

Hello,

Today’s interesting topic of discussion is something called trunk shows. While searching for one I came across a lot of bridal trunk shows especially in these upcoming dates. I can mostly likely guess this is because bridals that want a spring/summer wedding will come looking for the their dress now.

One particular upcoming bridal show that caught my attention was the Sophia et Viola trunk show thats happening between Tuesday November 27th and Wednesday November 28th. The creative director for it is Sofia Arribas who used to train as architect and has a close connection with haute couture. The result of this mix, is these beautiful dresses made in incredible silhouettes. She’s specializes in bridal couture for a high fashion bride in search of simple and modern design.

This trunk show will be held in Seattle, with a special appearance of Sofia and 10% off to those who come to the Trunk Show.

These are some of her past designs, aren’t they just lovely!…

Blog Post #6- Video Fashion Show

Welcome back friends it’s been a minute.

Today I’m writing to you all about one of my favorite fashion shows I’ve seen. This was none other than the Tyler the Creator Golf Fashion Show 2016. First of all I want to talk about how the show was very unconventional, very much like Tyler the Creator but all at the same time professional and creative. One of my favorite things about this show is that Tyler made it the most himself he could’ve made it and that in turn makes it a whole lot more unique. He had models walk out on the catwalk, but he also had some skateboarders show off his line while  skateboarding at the front of the circular runway. His models also opened up the show by riding little electric bikes, so cool!

Tyler also performed a bit of his songs and did some skits of acting. One of my favorite parts about this show was the fact that he included models of all different sizes and color  to represent inclusivity and acceptance. All the different models had a unique way of coming out onto the runway making the show exciting and intriguing to watch.

And so here I leave it, I’m sure you will like it just as much as I do…

Here are some pictures to top it off

Blog Post #5- Visual merchandising as a source of color inspiration

Hello friends, this week I went on hunt to look at stores with great window or in-store displays and I came across Urban Outfitters on Herald Square. Although it didn’t have many window displays it did have a lot of in-store visual merchandising. While roaming around their store I noticed they are heavily focusing on printed apparel, wether that be polka dots or animal prints with a hint of neutral colors. These neutral colors came in browns, off white, beige, black and gray with some dips of blue, blush, yellow and purple to give it a little pop of color on some of the merchandise.

All the merchandise looks visually pleasing to eye and makes the consumer want to shop several items just because their colors go so well together.

Here is photo I took of the window outside IMG_4012 2.jpg
Here you could see tones of deep colors mixed with some lighter neutrals…

and here are some of the in store displays pictures I took, the color combinations were very pleasing to the eye

Blog Post #4- NY Times Article

The article that chose on the NY Times was called Bind Me Up; Set me Free by Vanessa Friedman. In this article she writes about Thom Brown’s spring 2019 show in Paris and how unique the idea of the show and pieces were. She uses the words such as “seersucker”, “golden gowned” and “iridescent” to describe the garments shown on the runway at first glance. These types of words make the reader more enticed to keep on reading the review. As it goes on she described the shoes to be “vertiginous” in order to emphasize the immensity of the heal, the reader can visually see what she was talking about even if they weren’t there or didn’t see pictures of them. She also uses the phrase “sickening sweet pastels” which is almost contradicting but at the same time the fashion reader can get it once looking at the pictures from the show feeling what she was saying.

Her words seem very exciting and alluring when reading the review it makes the reader excited about the article, I know it made me interested. She ends talking about Thom Brown’s show  in words such as “dazzling” “painting” “genius” leaving the reader even more fascinated by the show.

Here some of the incredible pieces from the Thom Browns Spring 2019 Show…

Blog Post #3-Current Fashion Trend

Hello,

Recently with this is new dad look approaching in fashion, something with it has also came along. What I’m talking about are the dad sneakers, they’ve become a huge hit all over the streets of NYC and everywhere else in the world. Particularly, Nike Air Force 1’s have been coming back in style and have become a huge trend for street style in the recent seasons. They pay a very big tribute to the 90’s and hip hop era.  Personally, Air Force 1’s are my favorite sneakers of all time and possibly a trend I hope never fades away. These sneaker’s are very popular in white but they come in all different colors and customizations on the nike website.

The reason they call my name and they call so many other peoples attention is their ability to look good with almost any outfit you throw on. Want to wear a sundress but want to make  it casual, throw some Air Force 1s on, want to look cute but have to stand up or walk for a long period of time, throw some nike Air Force 1’s on. The versatility  and comfort of the shoe is what makes it so irresistible. So if you haven’t done so already I think it’s time to make a quick trip to your nearest footlocker and grab a pair.

The white look..

Blog Post #2- 1 key Item Fall 2019

Welcome back friends,

Looking through WGSN fashion page, I discovered a major trend for Fall 2019.  According to their site “Dad Wear” will become the next emerging trend in Fall collections. In relation to their denim forecast, washed jeans, oversized blazers and waterproof jackets will all become key items. Mundane stripes and monochromatic dressing will also be very popular when it comes to detail. This “dadcore” trend will have everyone thinking were back in the 90’s.

Going along with the denim forecast, a lot of it, referenced by WGSN’s Denim team, will have deconstructed designs such as “detached waistbands, seam manipulation and unexpected layering” officially breaking the rules of the norm in denim.

Future “Dad Core” key items look a lot like this…

Blog Post #1: My Favorite Fashion Blogs

Hello,

While there are many fashion blogs out there, I have realized I don’t quite follow a lot of them, particularly because of social media influence and how bloggers have now become instagrammers. However, I do have some favorites I had been reading a while back and still today.

My first favorite fashion blog is called Chronicles of Her. One of my favorite things about this blog is that it’s  not only curated for women but made by wonderful group of women all around the world. It not only has section on fashion but on beauty, hair and life. One of my favorite parts is that they have a page in which you could shop for merchandise from their team. This extraordinary site comes in handy when searching the latest street style trends with their Street 365 page.

My next favorite fashion blog is called the Fashion Guitar founded by a woman named Charlotte who was previously from the Netherlands, moved to New York and is currently based here. One of my favorite things about her blog is that she includes a lot of “how to wear” and “what to wear in” post. Her blogs are appealing and exciting to read. Many of them also relate a lot back to New York and the different seasons which is always helpful.

Lastly, my 3rd favorite blog is called Man Repeller by Leandra Medine. One of the most unique things about her blog is that she finds a way to incorporate humor into her post making it not only very interesting, but entertaining as well. There’s always something eye-catching about her headlines that entices the reader to click on it.
